Why Next.js for Every SaaS Project
Next.js gives us the three things that matter most in SaaS development: performance out of the box, flexibility in rendering strategy, and a deployment story that works on day one with Vercel.
The Pages Router remains our default for most projects. The App Router is maturing, but for client work where reliability matters more than bleeding-edge features, Pages Router wins.

**1. All content in one file.** `src/data/site.ts` holds every string, array, and configuration the site uses. This means clients can update content without touching component code.
**2. CSS variables for everything.** No hardcoded colour values in components. Every colour, spacing token, and font is a CSS variable. This makes dark/light mode trivial and design system changes instant.
**3. API routes as the backend.** For most SaaS products, Next.js API routes replace the need for a separate Express or NestJS backend. MongoDB via Mongoose connects directly. This reduces infrastructure complexity by 60%.
**4. Environment variables in Vercel.** Never in code. Never in git. Always in Vercel's encrypted environment variable storage.
The Performance Rules We Follow
Every project must pass these before client delivery: Lighthouse performance score above 90, First Contentful Paint under 1.5 seconds, no layout shift on load, all images served in WebP or AVIF format.
Deployment
Every project deploys to Vercel. Zero configuration. Automatic preview deployments on every pull request. Rollback in one click. For projects requiring more control, we deploy to AWS using the same Next.js build output.
